Santa Rosa streets became the backdrop to a concerning road rage incident involving a firearm yesterday afternoon. A driver, later identified as Kalvin Crump, was reported to have brandished a weapon at another road user on W. Third Street and Amador Drive. According to the official report, the Santa Rosa Police Department was alerted at about 4:52 pm and swiftly responded. Witnesses provided enough detail about Crump's silver BMW, facilitating a quick location by police.
Santa Rosa Police quickly mobilized and safely conducted a traffic stop. Crump, a 23-year-old Petaluma resident, was accompanied by a 1-month-old child and the child’s mother when he was detained. Officers notably brought in K9 Ghost, trained to specifically detect firearms, which signaled the presence of a weapon. In the vehicle's rear hatch, officers discovered a backpack housing a loaded .40 mm handgun along with an additional loaded magazine, a holster, and extra ammunition.
The presence of the child and mother during such a potentially volatile situation raises further concerns. Thankfully, the incident concluded without harm to them, and both were released at the scene. Crump, on the other hand, faces multiple charges, including assault with a firearm, brandishing a firearm at a vehicle, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm in public as a non-registered owner, as the police report states.
Following the traffic stop, Crump was booked into Sonoma County Jail and is awaiting due process.
