A violent confrontation in Philadelphia's West Mount Airy neighborhood left a woman hospitalized after her ex-boyfriend reportedly shot her, leading to a car accident. According to NBC Philadelphia, the incident began around 8 p.m. yesterday with a domestic dispute between a 26-year-old woman and her 39-year-old ex-boyfriend.
Later, around 11:30 p.m., as the woman was driving her Buick, her ex-boyfriend allegedly fired at her vehicle on the 300 block of Upsal Street. FOX 29 reports that she was struck in the leg, subsequently crashing into a parked car, which caused her Buick to flip onto its side. Police and firefighters responded to the scene, where the firefighters had to use a hydraulic tool to extract the victim from the wreck.
Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small indicated that the suspect, who is still at large, is believed to be known by the authorities. "We believe we know who the shooter is," Small told NBC Philadelphia, "So we’re pretty confident we will take him into custody in the near future."
The victim received medical attention at the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition, according to emergency personnel. The assailant described as a 39-year-old man fled the scene in a white sedan. 6abc adds that a prior domestic incident between the two was reported to the police about two hours before the shooting and crash occurred. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect's whereabouts to contact Philadelphia police.
