Pinellas County Opens Cold Night Shelters and Offers Free Bus Rides to Vulnerable Individuals Amid Chilly WeatherSource: Google Street View

As January's cold weather sets in, the Homeless Leadership Alliance has announced the opening of cold night shelters today. These shelters aim to provide warmth with beds and meals as temperatures are expected to feel like 40 degrees or below.

According to an announcement from the Pinellas County website, the shelters will be open from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and will operate until they reach capacity. The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) is offering free bus rides starting at 5 p.m., with passengers only needing to tell the driver their destination to have the fare waived.

There are several shelters available for adult men and women seeking refuge in Pinellas County. The Boys and Girls Club of Tarpon Springs, located at 111 W Lime Street, is accessible via PSTA Route #19. Clearwater’s First United Methodist Church at 411 Turner Street can be reached on PSTA Route #52.

In Pinellas Park, there are two shelters: the Boys & Girls Club of the Suncoast on 61st Street North and First United Methodist Church on 49th Street North, though the latter requires guests to use stairs. First United Methodist Church is also accessible via PSTA Route #52.

St. Petersburg has multiple shelters, including Northwest Presbyterian Church and WestCare Turning Point on 54th Ave. North and 5th Ave. North, respectively. St. Petersburg’s Unitarian Universalist Church and The Salvation Army on 4th Street South are also open, with access via various PSTA routes.
