A small plane crash-landed in a residential neighborhood in Temple City this Monday morning, narrowly avoiding a home. As reported by FOXLA, the incident occurred around 8 a.m. in the 4900 block of Arden Drive, close to El Monte Airport. Remarkably, the two people onboard, the pilot and passenger, walked away from the crash without sustaining injuries.
Emergency responders said that the crash was resolved before 9 a.m. and highlighted that Arden Drive between Olive Street and Lower Azusa Road would remain closed indefinitely as the investigation continues. People traveling through Temple City are advised to avoid the area. The plane, identified as a single-engine Cessna, apparently made a mayday call signaling an in-flight emergency before the crash landing, according to NBC Los Angeles.
The Cessna managed to land on a brick wall and was caught by the surrounding trees and shrubs, preventing more significant property damage or injury. "The way this plane crashed... it hit some trees, spun around and then was caught by a bunch of trees...," LA County Fire Capt. Sheila Kelliher told ABC7, emphasizing the fortunate turn of events that prevented the aircraft from damaging the structure of the nearby home directly. However, while it appears nobody was inside the home at the time of the incident, it is under investigation whether the house indeed made contact with the plane.
