Gunfire on a quiet Rancho Cucamonga street led to the arrest of a 19-year-old Pomona man this past Friday. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, deputies responded to reports of shots fired at about 10:18 p.m. on the intersection of Berkshire Avenue and Mignonette Street.
Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing juveniles running from the scene, where deputies later spotted a large group of youths and pursued a suspect vehicle. It was during this chase that an individual tossed a firearm from the car, which was then retrieved by law enforcement. The vehicle was subsequently stopped, leading to the detention of the driver and several passengers, including Daveontay Wright.
Upon investigation, authorities determined that Wright had discharged several rounds into the air while attending a party with friends. "After further investigation it was determined that suspect Daveontay Wright fired multiple rounds into the air during an altercation while he was at a party with friends," according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department's statement. Wright was arrested and booked at West Valley Detention Center, facing charges including Assault with a Firearm and Willfully Discharging of Firearm with Gross Negligence.
The case remains open, and officials are asking anyone with further information to contact the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff's Station directly or to leave an anonymous tip via the We-Tip Hotline.
