Port Huron authorities are investigating a pair of incidents that occurred early this morning on Vanness Street: a fatal shooting and a vehicle fire that may be linked. According to the CBS News Detroit, the Port Huron Police Department is actively investigating both events, with initial evaluations suggesting the vehicle fire could be arson. The Port Huron Fire Department responded around 12:13 a.m. to extinguish the vehicle blaze on the 3000 block of Vanness Street.
Only minutes after the fire report, at approximately 12:31 a.m., police units were dispatched in response to a shooting in the 2500 block, roughly two blocks away. Officers located a 35-year-old male victim, who had succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Police were sent to a home in the 2500 block of Vanness Street on a report that someone may have been shot, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Detective Bureau, alongside the Michigan State Police Crime Lab, are now piecing together evidence from both scenes.
While investigative teams work to understand whether these incidents are connected, the police turn to the community for assistance, asking anyone with potentially valuable information to step forward. The public can contact the Port Huron Police Department directly or provide anonymous tips through several avenues, including the CAPTURE Hotline, the police department's website, or via text message.
