A 72-year-old man from Queens has been charged with a series of alarming offenses, including the luring and stalking of a 12-year-old girl. The suspect, Badiul Jamal, allegedly engaged in behavior that prompted the NYPD to arrest him in the context of a deeply concerning encounter with the minor, as reported by both the New York Daily News and Shore News Network.
According to authorities, Jamal attempted to lure the young girl near 81st Street and 31st Avenue in East Elmhurst. The child encountered Jamal at roughly 3:30 p.m. on January 6, where he is accused to have defiantly followed her several times before supposedly grabbing her hand. Fortunately, the girl did not sustain any injuries during the incident. Jamal was charged with luring a child, second-degree stalking, and first-degree harassment.
As the NYPD investigates the case, they have issued a public statement asking for help from the community to uncover more details about the events of January 6. The department is working to identify any patterns in Jamal's behavior and find potential additional victims to protect the community's youth.
