A Raleigh man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a 71-year-old pedestrian. The collision occurred on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, as confirmed by Raleigh police. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Abdirahman Hassan Bare, faces multiple charges including felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death and misdemeanor death by vehicle, The News & Observer reported.
On the evening of Sunday, just after 6 p.m., Delores Richardson was crossing Raleigh Boulevard when she was struck by a southbound 2007 Chevy Impala, operated by Bare, who reportedly had a green light at the intersection. After the collision, police said Bare fled the scene. According to ABC11, "Multiple cameras captured video of his vehicle driving on roadways away from the crash."
Richardson was transported to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. In a statement obtained by WRAL.com, authorities say that Bare was taken into custody on Wednesday, following the identification and location of his car by the department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit.
The Wake County jail records show that Bare is on a $100,000 bail, and his license has been revoked for at least 30 days. The specific cause for the revocation was not detailed in court documents. Bare also faces additional misdemeanors including driving without a registration, window tinting violation, no liability insurance, and a fictitious or altered title/registration/card/tag. He was cited for failure to reduce speed and expired/no inspection. Furthermore, Bare has several pending charges in Wake County for related traffic violations, as reported by The News & Observer.
