The new Ramona Community Resource Center has opened its doors to bolster the availability of county services in the Ramona region. Located at the intersection of 12th and Main Streets, right next to a local library branch, this state-of-the-art facility ushers in a modern era, offering comprehensive access to assistance in areas such as mental health, nutrition, and healthcare, as reported by the County of San Diego.
Charting the end of a 25-year-old community fixture that had been serving since 1988, the inauguration of this $15 million center comes with the promise of facilitating around 6,000 visits in the forthcoming year, while currently, nearly 9,000 residents are already availing services including CalFresh and medical aid. Strategically situated, the center is poised to grow with the construction of a 100-unit affordable housing complex earmarked for seniors, which, if all goes according to plan, should see fruition shortly.
Community input played a crucial role in shaping the center, with features that cater to older adults and veterans countering the broader strokes of the building's architectural vision. Envisioned with the residents in mind, the one-story, 7,300-square-foot building also flaunts its concern for an environmentally sustainable future by achieving a LEED gold standard rating and promising zero net energy output owing to solar panels that make more energy than they consume.
