A recent arrest has brought the Reading School District into the spotlight as a middle school employee has been accused of misconduct with a student. Stephanie Quintero-Ochoa, 19, was taken into custody on allegations of inappropriate contact with a 13-year-old boy at Northwest Middle School, where she worked as an English as a Second Language paraprofessional. According to NBC Philadelphia, Quintero-Ochoa is charged with unlawful contact with a minor, indecent exposure, and other offenses.
Investigators suggest that Quintero-Ochoa's interactions with the boy included hugging, and touching that made the student feel uncomfortable. The situation escalated when she allegedly shared sexually explicit images on her phone with him. These complaints led to her arrest after the state's Department of Human Services was notified, as reported by WGAL.
Further digging by authorities revealed that Quintero-Ochoa reportedly showed sexually explicit materials to not only the initial boy, but also to three other students. This included a video in which she appeared to engage in sexual activity. The Reading School District has since placed Quintero-Ochoa on administrative leave, underscoring their commitment to student safety and cooperation with law enforcement in a statement obtained by FOX43.
These disturbing allegations have led to the seizure of Quintero-Ochoa's phone, wherein authorities claim to have found evidence corroborating the students' claims. District Attorney John T. Adams articulated the charges officially brought against Quintero-Ochoa, marking a serious violation of trust in the school community. Details of the case continue to unfold with a scheduled preliminary hearing set for February 7, as she was released on $25,000 unsecured bail following her arraignment, per NBC Philadelphia's report.
