The Rocklin Police Department recently reported on their response to a shoplifting incident. Officers were dispatched on a busy weekend to locate a suspect who had fled a local business. The investigation led to finding the vehicle involved, with three individuals inside.
According to the Rocklin Police Department's post, a search of the vehicle revealed stolen goods, leading to the detention of all three occupants. One individual was on searchable probation for narcotics paraphernalia, while another was charged with providing false identification, along with an outstanding no-bail warrant.
Officers utilized Proposition 36, a law enacted in 2024 that targets repeat theft offenders. The law holds individuals with multiple prior theft convictions accountable, rather than citing and releasing them. In this case, one individual was arrested under this statute, which aims to address theft and recidivism.
The individuals involved faced various charges. Elvi Bejtja, a 34-year-old from Carmichael, encountered charges for narcotics sales and transportation. Destiny Case, 47, from Santa Rosa, was arrested for shoplifting with priors, false ID to an officer, and an active warrant. Scott Simpson, 27, hailing from Citrus Heights, was merely issued a citation for possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
