The Elk Grove Police Department has reported an arrest in connection with a fentanyl overdose that turned fatal back in 2021. A 21-year-old man from Sacramento, identified as Keon Taylor, has been taken into custody following an investigation that spanned several years. According to the department's social media post, Taylor is accused of selling fentanyl pills to the victim, leading to a tragic outcome on April 22, 2021.
On that evening, officers responded to a distressing call at Jones Family Park, rushing to assist an individual found in the midst of an overdose in a public restroom. The victim, just 17 years old at the time, succumbed despite their earnest life-saving attempts. An autopsy by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office would later confirm the cause of death: fentanyl intoxication.
Elk Grove detectives, with the help of the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office Fentanyl Overdose Resolution Team (FORT), conducted an exhaustive investigation. Having pieced together evidence collected over the years, they pinpointed Taylor as the dealer who had been supplying the victim with the lethal pills. Working closely with FORT, investigators obtained an emergency arrest warrant for Taylor and made the arrest on Wednsday, detailed information by the police department's announcement.
Charged with Homicide under Penal Code 187 (a) and Transportation of a Controlled Substance as per Health and Safety Code 11352 (a), Taylor was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
