
In a late-night operation, Rocklin Police Department officers, reportedly with the assistance of a drone and a K-9 unit, arrested a Sacramento man allegedly found trespassing at a closed business with burglary tools and stolen items. Identified as 27-year-old Eric Torres, the suspect was detained in a secured lot where he was said to be tampering with a vehicle.
According to a Facebook post by the Rocklin Police Department, officers used an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) to quickly locate Torres, who was allegedly attempting to gain access to a vehicle. "A perimeter was set, and Rocklin K-9 Pimm joined the effort to locate the suspect," the police statement detailed. Torres was reportedly found with a bag containing tools typically used for burglary and stolen property, including ID cards belonging to others.
The operation was a coordinated effort involving the department's Swing and Graves Shift patrol teams, which resulted in Torres's arrest on charges related to burglary, identity theft, and an outstanding warrant. The Rocklin PD lauded the effort as "great work" by their patrol teams, emphasizing the success of the operation that led to the arrest.
"Late last night, Rocklin PD responded to a trespassing call at a closed business," the post began, detailing how their technology and personnel were deployed to effectively apprehend the suspect. The use of drones to assist in police operations has become increasingly more common, providing a vantage point that can to quickly assess situations from above.
