After a year of paused service due to track upgrades, the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) has launched new weekday service frequencies for all Folsom area light rail stations beginning today. As per CBS Sacramento, these stations will now see Gold Line trains arriving every 15 minutes from 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
The improvement comes after the installation of a new passing track at the Glenn/Robert G. Holderness Station, a necessity for to truly operate the faster interval service. Despite earlier community resistance to tree removals required for the track's construction, the project has been completed, according to CBS Sacramento. The SacRT considers this endeavor a significant advancement in public transit for the region.
Fox40 details that the Gold Line's enhanced service starts at the Sacramento Valley Station in Downtown Sacramento, runs through various neighborhoods including Midtown and East Sacramento, passes through Rancho Cordova, and concludes in Historic Folsom. The improved service frequency aims to provide a more reliable transportation option for those traveling within these areas.
In addition to the new schedule, SacRT General Manager and CEO Henry Li expressed pride in reintroducing the light rail service to the Folsom area. "We’re proud to bring light rail service back to the Folsom area, expand service frequency, and introduce our new low-floor trains," he told Fox40.
While weekday service has been notably increased, weekend light rail service will continue to operate at a 30-minute frequency. The project involved addressing community concerns and technical challenges, with the result expanding transportation options for residents of Folsom and the greater Sacramento area.
