Governor Gavin Newsom and Jennifer Siebel Newsom have put their gated estate on Tobia Way in Fair Oaks up for sale for $7.5 million, listing a property that once set a neighborhood price record as his second term as California governor approaches its end in January 2027. The 12,663-square-foot home sits on 8.2 acres along the bluffs, with seven bedrooms, nine full bathrooms and three partial bathrooms.

The listing, first reported by KCRA, is represented by Nick Sadek Sotheby's International Realty under MLS number 226092686, according to a report from the SF Standard. The estate's amenities read like a resort brochure: a private casita, a resort-style pool, a hot tub, a cold plunge, a full-sized tennis court, a four-car garage and a 5,000-bottle wine cellar, per KCRA's reporting. The home also offers sweeping views and privacy along the bluffs overlooking the American River.

A Record-Setting Purchase Back in 2018

Gavin and Jennifer Siebel Newsom bought the Fair Oaks property for $3.7 million in December 2018, a transaction that stood as the highest private home sale ever recorded in the Fair Oaks neighborhood, according to the Sacramento Bee. The purchase was executed through an LLC managed by Jeremy Scherer, Newsom's cousin and co-president of the PlumpJack Group hospitality company Newsom co-founded, Forbes reported. PlumpJack operates wineries, restaurants and hotels across California.

That ownership structure once drew political scrutiny, but state ethics regulators at the California Fair Political Practices Commission reviewed the arrangement and dismissed complaints after determining the purchase funds came from Newsom or exempted family members, according to CapRadio. State ethics rules permit personal real estate transactions funded by personal or exempt family assets.

From the Governor's Mansion to the Suburbs

After his January 2019 inauguration, Newsom and his family spent only a few weeks living in Sacramento's 142-year-old Victorian Governor's Mansion on H Street before relocating to the Fair Oaks compound, the Los Angeles Times reported at the time. The downtown Victorian mansion has since reverted to hosting public functions and state events, while official gubernatorial business and diplomatic receptions are held instead at the nearby Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park, which includes a designated working office and reception space for the governor, according to California State Parks.

Newsom is the third consecutive California governor to keep a primary or secondary residence outside downtown Sacramento, following Arnold Schwarzenegger, who commuted from Los Angeles throughout his time in office, and Jerry Brown, who split time from a home in Oakland, according to the California Globe. California law does not require governors to live full-time in official state housing.

A Move Back to Marin County

In November 2024, Newsom's press secretary announced the family would split its time between their Sacramento-area home and Marin County, a decision the spokesperson tied to their children's education. That same month, the Newsoms bought a 5,609-square-foot modern estate on Woodland Road in Kentfield, purchasing it from Hyatt Hotels heir Daniel Pritzker for $9.1 million, roughly 7% over asking price, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

It wasn't the family's first foray into Kentfield real estate. They previously owned a mid-century modern home there, designed by Bay Area architect Worley K. Wong, which they bought in 2011 for $2.225 million and sold off-market in May 2021 for $5.895 million, per Realtor.com. The family has since moved into their new Kentfield home, continuing a real estate footprint in Marin County that predates their return this time around.

An Ultra-Luxury Outlier in Fair Oaks

The $7.5 million asking price stands in stark contrast to the surrounding market. The median home sale price in Fair Oaks, an unincorporated suburban community of Sacramento, was approximately $699,000 in mid-2026, according to Redfin, making the Newsoms' listing price more than ten times the local median. Hoodline's earlier coverage of the Kentfield purchase noted that it set the stage for the family's eventual departure from the Fair Oaks estate as Newsom's tenure winds down.
