San Bernardino County has seen a concerted effort to fully suppress gang-related activity and illegal firearms possession, as detailed in a recent release documenting 'Operation Consequences,' which took place between January 5 and January 11. According to the announcement by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, deputies served four search warrants across several neighborhoods in what's being described as a targeted crime suppression effort.
The operation, which specifically aimed to directly address quality-of-life issues in the community, led to the confiscation of five firearms—one being an untraceable ghost gun—and the seizure of suspected methamphetamine. Additionally, three felony arrests were reportedly made during the week-long initiative. As detailed by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, the funds for this operation were authorized by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, to augment the Sheriff’s Department's capability in law enforcement services.
Locations targeted in the sweep included the 9200 block of Yucca Terrace Drive in Phelan, the 3300 block of Otono Court in Muscoy, and the 10000 block of Sierra Avenue in Bloomington. The Sheriff's Department described the suspects contacted during the operation as gang members and individuals barred from possessing firearms.
This is part of a larger strategic move, as 'Operation Consequences' is slated to continue over the coming months, involving various divisions of law enforcement such as the Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division, Specialized Enforcement Division, patrol stations, California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino County Probation, United States Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Department of Homeland Security Investigations. The overall goal, as stated in the release, is to significantly reduce violent crime, as well as to disrupt and dismantle criminal street gangs, and to better ensure the apprehension of parties involved in the illegal manufacturing and trafficking of firearms.
