Two San Bernardino women were apprehended this past weekend for petty theft at a Home Depot in Rancho Cucamonga, and it has been reported they had prior convictions. According to the SBSD Rancho Cucamonga Police Department, Claudia Renteria, 54, and Sonia Ochoa Ramirez, 43, allegedly attempted to leave the store with a cart full of items including several cans of lacquer.
Under the recently enacted Proposition 36 — a legislative attempt to reduce homelessness, drug addiction and theft — the suspects could now be swiftly taken to face a judicial system impatient with perpetuated misdemeanors. Renteria and Ochoa were indeed caught in the act at approximately 5:15 p.m. on January 4 and are now facing increased penalties due to their criminal history. Their charges come under Penal Code 666.1, which accounts for petty theft with two prior convictions, as detailed by the SBSD Rancho Cucamonga Police Department.
