Milwaukee residents looking to give their Christmas trees a second life can join the local community in the Garden District for a tree mulching event this Saturday. Hosting the initiative for its third year, 13th District Alderman Scott Spiker, alongside the Garden District Neighborhood Association, City of Milwaukee, and Department of Public Works, is welcoming locals to the "Mulch-O-Rama." The event is slated to take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the corner of S. 6th St. and W. Norwich Ave., inviting participants to contribute to the district’s greener tomorrow.
For those wanting to partake, note that trees should come unfettered by wrappings or bags and stripped of all decorations and ornaments. Although convenient, Saturday’s mulching opportunity is just one way to dispose of holiday remnants responsibly. As per the information obtained by the City of Milwaukee provided advisory, Milwaukee residents can continue leveraging the curbside collection service for Christmas trees through the end of January.
The endeavor is not only environmentally conscious, but also community-minded. The mulch generated during this event has been earmarked for nurturing the community gardens within the Garden District. With the city furnishing crews, the mulch is set to bolster local green spaces, enriching the soil and reducing waste - a testament to the communal spirit that defines the neighborhood, as per the City of Milwaukee.
