Residents of San Francisco TWP and its environs should be advised that, due to unfavorable weather conditions, Carver Fire's planned training event has been rescheduled. Initially set to happen on January 18th, the cold temperatures and biting winds have pushed the exercise to January 25th. This announcement came via a post on the Carver County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page, alerting the community to the postponement. The statement included, "Due to Today’s forecasted cold temperatures and wind, we have chosen to postpone the training until January 25th."
The original notice detailed plans for the Carver Fire Department to conduct controlled burns at a structure located to the south of both Carver and East Union. While the sight of heavy smoke might typically warrant concern, residents were told, "If you see heavy smoke from the area, you likely don’t need to call and report a fire; we’re already there!" Additionally, the sheriff's office highlighted that although training is a priority, the department's responsiveness to emergencies remains unchanged. They assured the community that normal operations and emergency responses would continue as usual during the training period.
Even though the training is vital for the fire department's continued preparedness, safety is paramount. The fire department reminds everyone that if they happen to observe more than one plume of smoke, they should reach out and inform the authorities. We will continue to provide updates as the new training date approaches, ensuring that residents are kept informed and that their safety is upheld.
