On Sunday, the Campbell Police Department rushed to the scene of a standoff at the city's famous water tower. Upon their arrival at 2:25 AM, officers found 24-year-old San Jose resident Briley Bodemar perched atop the structure. This wasn't the landmark's first defacement; previous incidents were reported on December 26, 2024, and January 9.
Despite police calls for Bodemar to climb down, he remained aloof, prompting law enforcement to discreetly wait from a distance, per a social media update by the City of Campbell Police Department.
Police strategy appeared to primarily avoid forcibly escalating the situation, as marked vehicles were repositioned and officers kept watch. It wasn't until approximately 4:40 AM that Bodemar descended, only to lead officers on a short foot chase before being detained. He now faces charges, including felony vandalism, possession of graffiti tools, and resisting arrest, according to the Campbell Police Department's social media post.
