As we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the upcoming federal holiday, Seattle's routine waste collection schedule will see a slight readjustment. According to Seattle Public Utilities, several areas in Seattle will experience a one-day delay in garbage, recycling, and compost pick-up. This delay is a direct result of a labor agreement between Recology and the Teamster's union that identifies MLK Day as a designated non-service day. The agreement and the subsequent adjustment in the collection schedule underscore a gesture of respect and acknowledgment for the holiday by the City of Seattle and its operational subdivisions.

For residents living in Northeast Seattle and parts of Central Seattle, the revised schedule means all collections will be pushed back by a day starting from Monday, January 20, through to Saturday, January 25. "Customers normally collected on Monday will now be collected on Tuesday, with Tuesday customers on Wed, and so on with Friday customer now being collected on Saturday," the notice from Seattle Public Utilities explains. Households in these areas should set out their carts accordingly on the new collection day.

Meanwhile, locals residing in Northwest Seattle, West Seattle, and South Seattle have been advised to adhere to the usual timetable as collections will continue as normal on Monday, January 16, and throughout that week. They too need to set their carts out, but on their regular day for waste management services to ensure timely and efficient removal.
