As the city honors the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., Seattle Parks and Recreation will observe the holiday with a series of closures next Monday. In a move to afford the community time to reflect on the civil rights leader's contributions, a range of facilities will take a pause, including community centers, teen life centers, and all recreation programs, according to an announcement made by Seattle Parks and Recreation.
Those looking to use indoor swimming pools, environmental learning centers, or small craft centers will need to make alternative plans, as these will not be available either. The Volunteer Park Conservatory and the Japanese Garden are also on the list of closures, though the Japanese Garden would have been closed regardless since it undergoes winter maintenance from December through February.
However, not every facility will be closed for the day. If you're looking to play a round of golf or hit some tennis balls, you're in luck. Open facilities include Interbay, Jackson Park, Bill Wright, and West Seattle golf courses and ranges, as well as the Amy Yee Tennis Center. Additionally, Seattle’s boat ramps and parks will welcome visitors according to their regular schedules.
