The Metropolitan Police Department has made a second arrest related to the triple shooting incident that occurred in Southeast last year. According to the Metropolitan Police Department's official statement released, a 17-year-old from Northwest was taken into custody and charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree in connection with the July 23, 2024 shooting.
Authorities were called to the scene in the 2900 block of Nelson Place, Southeast, where they found three women with gunshot wounds. All three were treated at local hospitals and survived their injuries. The latest arrest follows the previous apprehension of a 16-year-old male from Southeast, who initially faced charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun). His charges have since been upgraded, similarly, to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree.
The case continues to unfold as the investigation persists. The Metropolitan Police Department urges anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward. Tips can be relayed anonymously via phone at (202) 727-9099 or through the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The police department is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this or other violent crimes in the District of Columbia.
These arrests shed light on the ongoing challenge of youth violence in the city, a problem that has garnered increased attention from community leaders and law enforcement. The department has not released the names of the suspects, due to their ages, and the investigation remains active. As new information surfaces, officers hope to understand the motives behind the shooting and, possibly prevent future incidents of such tragic nature.
