A Senatobia man led state troopers on a chase and is now facing charges after crashing into a trooper’s vehicle, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP). The incident unfolded during a safety checkpoint in DeSoto County on Thursday evening. Identified as 27-year-old Jacob Allen Smith, the driver reportedly performed a U-turn upon approaching the checkpoint on Highway 301 and proceeded to flee, igniting a pursuit.

In their account of the event, MHP officials shared with Action News 5 that Smith's attempt to evade law enforcement culminated near Highway 302 at Star Landing Road, where he lost control of his 1998 Ford F-150 and collided with an MHP patrol car. Following the crash, Smith was taken into custody, and no injuries were reported.

WREG news confirms that Smith is charged with a range of offenses which include DUI, fleeing from law enforcement, endangerment of a child in the vehicle, expired driver's license, as well as multiple traffic violations. The chase, which took place around 5:30 p.m., was described as brief but ended in charges that carry significant legal implications.

Jacob Allen Smith was not only found to have an unrestrained child in the truck, but he was also driving impaired according to the narrative by FOX13 Memphis. Subsequent to his arrest, Smith's list of charges expanded further with additional counts such as vehicle insurance law violation, improper lane usage, and contempt of court originating from Hernando, Mississippi. Smith is currently held at the DeSoto County Jail without bond.
