Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer shared a heartfelt message with his constituents, announcing his resignation to take on a new role as a Legislative Affairs Officer at the Department of Transportation and Development for the State of Louisiana. In statements posted to the City of Slidell website, Cromer, whose tenure will conclude on January 20, 2025, expressed mixed emotions about his departure, "It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I am stepping down as your Mayor," and highlighting that serving the citizens of Slidell was the best and most rewarding job of his career.

Reflecting on his accomplishments, Cromer is proud of the infrastructure improvements and investments in recreational areas during his six years in office, including projects like the extensive renovation of the Henry J. Calamari Tennis Courts and the new amenities added to John Slidell Park, this exemplifying his dedication to promoting Slidell residents’ quality of life, praised the dedication of city employees. "Together, Team Slidell has achieved great things for our community, and I am confident that Slidell’s future remains bright," Cromer stated, convinced that his contributions have left a lasting impact on the City of Slidell.

Greg Cromer's forthcoming transition to his role with the DOTD doesn't mean he'll be stepping away from serving the Slidell community, as he voiced enthusiasm about his ability to keep advocating for regional needs and those of the state at large saying, “I want to thank the citizens of Slidell for their trust and support throughout my time as mayor. I look forward to continuing to serve you by advocating for the needs of our region and the needs of those throughout the state in my new position with the DOTD,” as stated by the City of Slidell.

Slidell City Councilman-at-Large Bill Borchert is set to fill the mayoral vacancy, in line with the City of Slidell home rule charter provision, which delegates interim mayoral responsibilities to the council member with the most votes, and Borchert is preparing to step into the role of interim mayor on January 21, a day after Cromer leaves office; his swearing-in will occur at noon in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium, all this occurring just after Cromer’s final bow as Slidell mayor.
