A Snohomish County man, aged 43, has entered a guilty plea to charges including the production of images of child sexual abuse and attempted enticement of minors. Bennett S. Park, the defendant, admitted his offenses before the U.S. District Court in Seattle, as confirmed yesterday by U.S. Attorney Tessa M. Gorman. In August 2023, Park's apprehension occurred when he was caught picking up a 13-year-old in Everett, Washington. During his failed attempt, Park had previously informed an undercover officer about his intentions with the child.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office press release, the plea agreement revealed Park's response in July 2023 to an online ad, a sting operation conducted by an undercover Homeland Security Investigation agent. Park boasted about the active abuse of minors and expressed interest in sexually exploiting the agent’s nonexistent children. Authorities swiftly placed Park under surveillance to protect the youth he mentioned, including a 13-year-old whom he had arranged to meet. Subsequent inspection of Park's electronic devices exposed grim communication with multiple minors and led authorities to identify 23 victims, who had been manipulated into sharing sexually abusive images.
The sentencing guidelines for Park's indiscretions include a mandatory minimum of 15 years and up to 30 years for the production of child pornography, with a further mandatory minimum of 10 years and the potential for life imprisonment for the attempted enticement of a minor. The recommendations from prosecutors and defense attorneys span a 20- to 25-year range, though U.S. District Judge Ricardo S. Martinez can issue a sentence outside these suggested bounds. The sentencing is slated for April 25.
