Residents and business owners in South Knoxville can get the scoop on the upcoming Sevier Avenue Streetscape Project during an open house scheduled for the evening of January 9. Set to take place at South Knoxville Elementary School, the event by the city offers neighbors a chance to drop in, learn more about the development, and raise any concerns they might have.
According to the City of Knoxville's announcement, the project features a substantial $19.2 million investment and promises significant enhancements to the area. Among the planned additions are wide, ADA-compliant sidewalks, a new railroad crossing along with modern streetlights and traffic signals, the construction of a roundabout, and utility upgrades that will be relocated below ground.
While the initiative will extend into the summer of 2026, the determination to maintain access to local businesses and educational institutions stands firm. Traffic patterns will be preserved with at least two lanes open, and flaggers will be on-site to manage the flow in instances where diversions are necessary.
To uphold Civil Rights Title VI and ADA Title II laws, the city pledges to ensure "meaningful access to City programs, services, and activities." Those in need of language translation or disability accommodations can contact the city's Human Resources Department or the ADA Coordinator, as per their respective emails and contact numbers provided in the announcement.
