In a recent bust by the South San Francisco Police Department, a ring of criminals was apprehended due to the quick thinking of local enforcement and technological assistance. According to a social media post from the South San Francisco Police Department, the incident occurred on Sunday when a business owner on North Canal Rd. reported an activated burglary alarm.
South San Francisco officers who arrived at the scene confirmed the crime and immediately turned to video surveillance and the Flock Safety Camera network to track down the suspects. The operation evidenced a cohesive effort stretching multiple jurisdictions as the thieves tried to slip the net, discarding stolen property from a vehicle that happened to be stolen. After a pursuit, assisted by various law enforcement agencies throughout San Mateo County, spanning several cities, the suspects found themselves heading back to South San Francisco with deflated tires.
The chase concluded in San Francisco, where a standoff ensued. The officers responded with negotiation tactics, K-9 units, and drones, eventually convincing the three-person crew to surrender. The South San Francisco Police outlined that the successful operation led to the arrest of the trio, who now face a string of charges, including commercial burglary, narcotics possession, use of burglary tools, vehicle theft, evading police, and acting on outstanding warrants. All three were booked in San Mateo County Jail.
