The turn of the year brought not just celebration but also distress for a St. Johns County family, as a house fire on New Year's Day resulted in the loss of their home, as reported by News4JAX. The fire broke out in the Marsh Landing community, thankfully with no injuries as the family was out of town when the incident happened, though what exactly sparked the blaze remains under investigation by authorities.
In a statement obtained by News4JAX, the St. Johns County Fire Rescue disclosed that crews had responded to the fire early on Wednesday morning; concurrently, Action News Jax reports that the day was taxing for local firefighters who battled a total of three residential fires within a span of about 12 hours which indicates the workload it was not just the single incident that marked the holiday for these public servants.
Among these emergencies, a canine was caught in one of the infernos at a residence located in the 1800 block of Cross Pointe Way, as noted by First Coast News. The pet was successfully rescued by the fire department during the garage fire, no human injuries were recorded, yet the condition of the dog after the event has not been made public.
The series of incidents underlines the continuous risks communities face from fires and the relentless nature of the work carried out by fire services, with holidays offering no pause for these essential workers, the firefighters not only saved a family pet but also addressed the series of urgent calls for help which Action News Jax characterized this workload as "business as usual" for the dedicated teams.
