St. Johns County locals and visitors who have missed casting lines from the county's beloved pier can mark their calendars. According to the official announcement, the St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier is slated to reopen for business on Sunday, January 12. This comes after a temporary hiatus due to essential shoreline restoration work by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
With the project reaching a point that allows public access, the county has confirmed that the pier will once again be subject to the regular fees for both fishing and sightseeing that applied prior to the closure. They've also made provisions for those who held passes before the disruption; all annual fishing and sightseeing passes sold before the pier's closure are being generously extended by seven months past their original expiration dates.
Although much of the pier will be available for use, county officials have advised that the last 100 feet of the structure remain off-limits until further notice.
