The City of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, is bringing a whimsical twist to the New Year with a gnome hunt set to take place throughout January. According to their social media post, residents will be able to search for different New Year's gnomes hidden in city parks every week.
Starting January 7, and on every subsequent Tuesday in January, clues will be posted on Facebook, Instagram, and GovDelivery to guide gnome hunters on their quest. There's an added enchantment for those who find and take a photo with these elusive figurines – it's believed they'll inherit a sprinkle of good luck.
The City of St. Louis Park encourages participants to immortalize their finds with a photo op, requesting they share their pictures either in the comments of the clue posts or by tagging the city in their own social media dispatches. Nonetheless, finders are reminded to leave the gnome as they found it, ensuring the good fortune is shared amongst other community members in this quaint luck-sharing tradition.
For those engrossed in making their 2025 a fortuitous year, a gnome hunt might just be the out-of-the-box activity to not only connect with the community but also add an element of magical chase, though, keep in mind, fair play and respect for the game by not moving the gnomes is part of keeping the good luck charm alive, so they say for future finders to enjoy the hunt as much as the gnomes seem to enjoy their fleeting moments of capture before they disappear once again.
