The Metropolitan Police Department has taken a 28-year-old man into custody following a domestic-related shooting incident that left five people injured in Northeast Washington, D.C. The suspect, identified as Deamonte Bridgeforth, faces multiple charges in connection with the violence that occurred on the evening of Friday.

According to the initial report by the MPD, officers from the Fifth District were called to the 1500 block of Harry Thomas Way, Northeast around 8:18 p.m. following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found two men and a woman, all adults and conscious, with gunshot wounds. The victims were quickly sent to a nearby hospital by DC Fire and EMS for treatment. Two other males, also with gunshot injuries, had already self-transported to a hospital and were found to have non-life-threatening injuries. Investigations by the detectives led to the revelation that one of these two men was the suspect in question.

Bridgeforth has been charged with three counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun). The detectives have confirmed that the offense was domestic in nature. "The shooting occurred during an altercation between the suspect and one of the victims," the police said in a statement. The nature of the altercation and the relationships between the individuals involved was not immediately detailed in the MPD announcement.
