Tragedy strikes in the northwest sector of the District as police apprehend a suspect following a fatal stabbing incident. On a chilled January morning, police officers converged upon an apartment in the 1300 block of Missouri Avenue to find a disturbing scene—an elderly woman lifelessly bearing the marks of a brutal assault.
Tipped off by a welfare check just before noon on January 17th, officers were first to discover 83-year-old Sandra Mundle, who had succumbed to multiple stab wounds. According to the Metropolitan Police Department's official release, despite the swift response of DC Fire and EMS, there was nothing to be done to alter the grim fate that had befallen Mundle. No pulse roused to the touch, no breath fogged the glass—Mundle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Christopher Holness with a listed address of nowhere, did not manage to evade the law. Police moved quickly to apprehend Holness, and he now faces charges of Second Degree Murder while Armed. Investigators piecing together the narrative of that day have stated the killing appeared to be domestic in nature. The Metropolitan Police Department disclosed these details in a recent report.
The charged, Christopher Holness, is besides set to appear in court, where the weight of justice will duly seek to balance the scale tipped by this latest act of domestic violence.
