This morning, a Michigan State Police trooper narrowly avoided a potentially severe accident after a suspected drunk driver collided with the patrol car he was out of on I-75. The incident occurred near the M-46 exit in Saginaw County. Reporting from ClickOnDetroit, the trooper had been responding to a separate minor crash when the drunk driver, chasing the quiet before the storm, slammed into the stationary police car.
Rushing to avoid injury, the trooper had to jump out of the path of the crashed vehicles, receiving minor injuries in the process. As per FOX 2 Detroit, those involved in the initial minor accident weren't so fortunate, sustaining injuries during the second collision. All parties were transported to a hospital to be treated for their minor injuries.
The driver responsible for the second collision was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. The ongoing investigation seeks to untangle the sobering dangers posed by a choice that violates the sanctity of public safety. Reports cite Michigan's "Move Over" law and emphasize the risk such incidents pose to law enforcement and other emergency responders who rely on the vigilance and care of passing motorists.
