In light of the upcoming Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the City of Tampa has announced alterations to its waste collection schedule to honor the federal holiday. City offices will close on Monday, to pay tribute to the civil rights leader's legacy. Consequently, the customary trash collection routine for Tampa residents and business owners will experience temporary changes.
According to information from the City of Tampa's official announcement, residential customers who typically receive Monday service are informed that their garbage, recycling, and yard waste will not be collected on MLK Day. Instead, they'll have to wait until their next slated service day. Following the holiday, regular residential collection service is set to resume on Tuesday, without further interruption.
Commercial collection service won't adhere to its regular program either; operations for commercial customers are slated to run one day late, stretching through to January 25. The normal schedule for collection services will be reinstated on January 27.
As part of the revised schedules, the McKay Bay Transfer Station and Scale House located at 114 S. 34th St.., will also observe the holiday with a closure on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the city's statement detailed. This key facility will resume its operation with standard hours starting Tuesday, after the holiday.
For those seeking precise updates on service alterations and schedules, Tampa residents can download the Tampa Trash and Recycling app available on both Apple and Google Play stores or contact the City of Tampa Utilities Call Center directly at (813) 274-8811. Additional information regarding the temporary service changes can also be found on the city's website.
