A road rage altercation turned potentially deadly occurrence in Jackson, Tennessee has culminated in the apprehension of a 17-year-old suspect by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), as well as the arrest of his father for alleged complicity. On December 15, 2024, the youth reportedly engaged in a road rage incident with a FedEx delivery truck driver, opening fire and shooting at the driver behind the wheel.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, as the driver sought to steer away from a near collision, the teenager, driving a pick-up truck, allegedly pursued before discharging a firearm into the delivery vehicle. The harrowing moment prompted the victim to trail the assailant's truck, offer a detailed description to 911 operators, and ultimately, initiate law enforcement engagement. Jackson Police Department (JPD) responded to the event and identified the young suspect, leading to a high-speed pursuit that exceeded 100 m.p.h. before the teen eluded officers on Interstate 40.
Intervention by the USMS Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF) resulted in a search warrant execution on Wednesday, where the teen was located under a bed in Lexington, TN. During the search, Ricky Maness, Jr., the suspect's father, allegedly attempted to deceive law enforcement regarding his son's whereabouts, a move that earned him a charge of accessory after the fact, as per U.S. Marshals Service.
The task force's efforts reflect a broader initiative, reflected in a statistical testament to the TRVFTF's success since 2021, capturing around 3,000 violent offenders and sexual predators in Western Tennessee. Both the father and his son are now in custody — the youth at Madison County Juvenile Detention Center, and Maness at the Henderson County Detention Center, facing their respective consequences for the December incident and their part in, the subsequent evasion.
