A break-in gone wrong in West Memphis has left a 14-year-old boy dead and two other minors, aged 11 and 16, potentially facing serious charges. As reported by Action News 5, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, with the West Memphis Police Department responding to the scene to find the 14-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead.
After the fatal shooting, the 11-year-old and the 16-year-old were arrested and taken into custody by the police. Faced with a complex legal scenario, authorities are considering a range of charges that include murder and aggravated burglary for the surviving participants of the burglary, as they were caught at the scene of the attempted burglary.
The FOX13 Memphis report detailed the events, noting that the attempted burglary took place shortly before 8 p.m. on Tuesday. It was during this attempt that someone inside the home fired upon the intruders, leading to the tragic outcome.
West Memphis Police Chief Robbin Campbell said in a statement obtained by Local Memphis, "We are deeply saddened by the events that transpired." He emphasized that "This is a tragic situation that underscores the dangers of criminal activity and the severe consequences that can follow." As an ongoing investigation unfolds, the identities of the adolescents involved have not been disclosed due to their age.
