
Three individuals sustained injuries during a collision that took place on The Plaza in east Charlotte today, as confirmed by local emergency services. According to WCNC Charlotte, the incident occurred near Karenstone Drive and McBride Street at approximately 9:30 a.m., with one person rushed to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center bearing life-threatening injuries, while two others reported minor injuries.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department closed off parts of The Plaza for an hour to facilitate their investigation and clear the debris, a stretch of road that witnessed a significant disruption following the accident. A report by Queen City News advised local residents to seek alternative routes and avoid the area. Details regarding the cause of the pileup had not been released as of the latest updates.
Onsite footage captured a heavily damaged car and, quite tellingly, a work van laying on its side. Chopper 9 Skyzoom, which overflew the scene, provided visuals of the aftermath. Alongside the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, multiple agencies arrived swiftly in response to the incident. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have yet to dispense further details, although the community has been asked to step forward by calling Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 if they possess any information relevant to the event, as reported by WSOCTV.
While the immediate area where the crash happened has been cleared and normal traffic flow restored, the investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash is ongoing.
