
A fire broke out yesterday afternoon at a nine-story apartment building in Battle Creek, Michigan, and three residents were treated for smoke inhalation. According to the WOODTV report, the Battle Creek Fire Department responded to the incident around 4:45 p.m. at 231 Springview Dr. Smoke was discovered on the first floor, emanating from a trash compactor at the rear of the building.
Efforts to quickly manage the blaze allowed firefighters to assist some residents in staying safely within their apartments. In contrast, others, particularly from the first floor, were moved to the cafeteria to await further damage assessment. The Battle Creek Enquirer reported that a sprinkler was also triggered on the seventh floor in the trash chute area.
The fire department noted that the three individuals affected by the smoke were treated onsite and released. The report from FOX 17 News highlighted that the treatment was administered by LifeCare Ambulance. While the immediate danger was quelled, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the BCFD Fire Marshal Division.
