
In the early hours of Sunday morning, a high-speed chase involving the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office ended in a fatal collision. Around 1:40 a.m., deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Wilson Way and Harding Way, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The driver fled, leading authorities on a pursuit through the streets of Stockton.
The chase ended at the intersection of Airport Way and Hazleton Avenue, where the suspect’s vehicle collided with another car. According to CBS Sacramento, all three individuals involved in the crash, including the two occupants of the uninvolved vehicle and the driver of the stolen car, were pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office has an 11-page pursuit policy that details the procedures deputies should follow in such situations. The policy includes considerations such as speed, the potential risk to other motorists, and the distance between law enforcement and the suspect, as reported by ABC10. It also emphasizes the importance of contacting relevant authorities before attempting an arrest.
Local resident Gabriel Duarte, whose home is in the vicinity of the accident, recounted the impact's sound to ABC10, saying, "I looked out of my window and saw the cars," he continued, mentioning the patrol cars lined up in pursuit. "They were at the wrong place at the wrong time and those were the consequences," Duarte reflected on the deceased.
The investigation into the crash is being led by the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office in collaboration with the Stockton Police Department. While official reports are still pending and the investigation is ongoing.
