Heads up, drivers: major bridge repairs are on the horizon for those of you accustomed to traveling along US-169 and Cookingham Drive. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced there will be closures starting January 20 through February 22, putting a wrench in the usual traffic flow. This operation is contingent, on how the weather plays ball, and could potentially extend depending on the conditions.
According to MoDOT's advisory, the repair work is set out in two phases, each impacting different aspects of US-169. For starters, phase one will completely shut off the northbound lanes of US-169 at the I-435 exit. Drivers looking to stick to US-169 will be siphoned onto the exit ramp, while others, may redirect as needed. Transitioning into phase two, highway crews will flip the script and close the exit ramp from 169 northbound to I-435, funneling all traffic to continue on US-169.
The effects of this construction ballet extend to Cookingham Drive as well, where one lane in each direction is set to disappear temporarily. Although these changes might stir up some inconvenience, rest assured, those departing from I-435 won't have to navigate any new turns or detours regarding these exits.
MoDOT also has a reminder for folks piloting vehicles through these areas: "Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones." Not every work zone will wave a bright flag or have a flashing sign.
