
A Twentynine Palms woman was arrested on charges of petty theft after deputies found her in possession of stolen mail. The incident occurred on Monday, on the 73000 block of Sunnyslope Drive, as reported by the SBSD Morongo Basin Sheriff's Department. The suspect, identified as 63-year-old Lisa Alanis of Twentynine Palms, was apprehended during a law enforcement response prompted by a 911 call signaling theft from mailboxes in the vicinity.
According to the information provided by the SBSD Morongo Basin Sheriff's Department, the deputies swiftly arrived at the scene at around 3:36 pm, mere minutes after the call was placed. Alanis was detained shortly after when officers discovered her with a box containing various pieces of mail, some of which included personal identifying information and bank statements belonging to other individuals.
After her arrest for petty theft with priors under Penal Code 666.1, Alanis was booked at the Morongo Basin jail. The victimized mail was either returned to its rightful owners or handed back to the Post Office. The case has since been forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for review and possible filing of charges, with Deputy Christian Cervantes of Morongo Basin Station as the point of reference.
