A series of stabbings in downtown Denver has left two people dead and two others injured, Denver Police report. The violent spree unfolded near the 16th Street Mall, beginning Saturday evening and culminating in an arrest Sunday night following a second fatality. According to 9NEWS, three stabbings occurred between 5 and 6 p.m. on Saturday, leaving one victim dead and the other two with non-life-threatening injuries.
In the wake of these events, the Denver Police Department had worked swiftly to link all three stabbings, using video evidence and suspect descriptions. They managed to firmly establish an alleged suspect's involvement in all four crimes. "Officers were able to link all three stabbings based on video and suspect descriptions," Police Chief Ron Thomas said, per 9NEWS. As of now, no connection seems to exist between the victims and the suspect, nor has a motive been brought to light.
Amid continued investigations, another person was stabbed fatally on Sunday night at the 1600 block of Market Street, where the street intersects with the mall. The suspect was taken into custody following this attack. "Denver police arrested a suspect Sunday night in connection with a string of weekend stabbings on or near the 16th Street Mall," according to The Denver Post, though the authorities have yet to disclose the identity of the suspect publicly.
Before the arrest, Denver Police had circulated a photo and surveillance footage of the suspect, describing him as a White man in a gray or dark green jacket, black jeans, and black Adidas shoes with white stripes. This was to quickly appeal to the public for assistance in the case. As obtained by CBS News Colorado, officials provided the descriptor in hopes that it would aid in identifying and locating the suspect prior to the fourth stabbing.
