Two people are dead following a serious traffic collision in Moreno Valley last Friday. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred at the intersection of Ironwood Avenue and Heacock Street around 11:07 a.m.
Serious injuries were sustained by victims of a collision involving an Infiniti and a Mercedes. The Mercedes passenger, Ancelmo Sanchez, a 39-year-old Moreno Valley resident, was declared dead at the scene. While being transported to a local hospital with significant injuries, the Mercedes driver, whose identity was not disclosed, survived the incident. The Infiniti also had a driver and passenger who were transported with serious injuries to a nearby hospital.
Additionally, two pedestrians found themselves inadvertently involved in the tragic events. The collision tragically pushed the Mercedes into their path as they stood on the sidewalk. Luis Lopez, 31, also a resident of Moreno Valley, later died in the hospital from his injuries, while the second pedestrian escaped physical harm.
The aftermath of the crash prompted a temporary road closure on Ironwood Avenue between Heacock Street and Kristin Court for evidence collection and scene processing. Knowing the importance of piecing together the circumstances that led to this tragedy, the Moreno Valley Sheriff's Station Traffic Reconstruction Team has taken over the investigation.
