A popular shopping hub in metro Atlanta, the Town Center Mall at Cobb, abruptly shut its doors to the public yesterday due to an untimely power cutoff from unpaid bills. In the wake of the mall's closure, Cobb County officials were quick to release statements addressing the issue and outlining their action plan.
"Our Police and Fire Departments have taken immediate steps to ensure the safety and security of the property and surrounding neighborhood," stated Cobb County authorities, as a coping strategy for the unexpected blackout. They are also reportedly in discussions with the mall's property management team to develop a sustainable plan that will safeguard the complex until it can feasibly reopen. County officials have pledged to utilize all available resources to support the affected businesses and their employees, as reported by the county's official website.
Concurrently, concern was raised by the Cobb County Fire Marshal's Office regarding the mall's fire protection systems that were observed running on backup battery power. "As a precaution, a Fire Watch was implemented to supplement the fire protection systems while they remain out of service and are being repaired," the Fire Marshal's Office reported. This measure requires the mall's management to regularly inspect vulnerable areas for potential fire hazards and inform occupants about any inoperable critical fire protection systems, as per the county's official release.
Fire inspectors confirmed yesterday that some fire protection systems were still relying on temporary battery power. Fire Marshal personnel are now working closely with county officials and the mall's management team to develop and implement a permanent solution, avoiding potential risks from power failure.
