Tragedy struck in Southern California as a woman, 33, was found dead in her Upland apartment on New Year's Eve, prompting a homicide investigation by local authorities. According to KTLA, officers from the Upland Police Department responded to the scene after receiving a call from someone concerned about the woman's welfare, who had not shown up for work and was unresponsive to contact attempts.
Upon arriving at the residence in the 2000 block of West Arrow Route around 8:20 p.m., police officers observed the unresponsive victim through a window, noting visible injuries. As firefighters also rushed in hopes of reviving the woman, they were unable to do so, and she was declared dead at the location, CBS Los Angeles reported.
The nature of the injuries suggested an altercation had taken place, leading authorities to treat the case as a homicide. Upland Police Sergeant Marci Williams, in a statement obtained by CBS Los Angeles, mentioned, "She had injuries on her body that indicate that there was some kind of altercation." Investigators, at this time, remain uncertain if the victim knew the attacker but they do not believe the incident was a random act of violence.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to reach out, promising confidentiality and stressing the importance of any detail that may aid in apprehending those responsible. "We are conducting a homicide investigation, which is on-going," as stated by the Upland Police Department.
