An Upland woman was taken into custody last Thursday, accused of setting a brush fire in Rancho Cucamonga, officials said. Rhonda Ramos, 59, was arrested on suspicion of arson following the incident near Foothill Boulevard and Lion Street, as reported by the SBSD Rancho Cucamonga Police Department.

The blaze was reported to the authorities around 12:21 PM. As the fire began its consumption of the dry brush, several witnesses reported seeing an adult female hastily leaving the vicinity, said officials. When the deputies arrived, they met with the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District firefighters who had swiftly subdued the flames.

Based on the descriptions offered by the witnesses, law enforcement officers were able to track down Ramos in front of a business close to the scene. "Ramos was determined to be the subject fleeing from the burning field and matched the description provided by witnesses," according to the SBSD Rancho Cucamonga Police Department.

Having been identified as the person of interest in the case, Ramos was detained and, thereafter arrested. Subsequent to her arrest, she was booked at the West Valley Detention Center for PC 451(c) – Arson.
