The U.S. Marshals Service announced a significant milestone in its mission to bolster public safety, reporting the arrest of 74,222 fugitives during fiscal year 2024. This figure includes 28,706 wanted on federal warrants and 45,516 wanted on state and local warrants, which translates to an average of 297 apprehended individuals per operational day. As stated by USMS Director Ronald L. Davis, "These figures are not just statistics—they are a reflection of the tireless work of our men and women to bring fugitives to justice," according to the US Marshals Service.
The breakdown of arrests included 9,762 sex offenders, 6,623 gang members, 5,337 homicide suspects, 1,743 international/foreign fugitives, 1,133 organized crime drug enforcement task forces fugitives, and 266 Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act violations. Additionally, the USMS's 15 Most Wanted fugitives list saw three arrests. Notably, over 5,150 firearms were seized across various operations, further indicating the agency's active role in violence reduction and counter-gang initiatives.
Among the major operations, Operation Washout – OD3 and Operation North Star (ONS) FY24 were particularly impactful. During the former, 736 warrants were closed, and 96 arrests were made, which included 78 gang members. The operation also resulted in the confiscation of 57 firearms and substantial quantities of narcotics and currency. ONS FY24 led to the arrest of 3,421 violent fugitives and the seizure of 534 firearms, $508,000 in cash, and 456 kilograms of illegal narcotics.
In a year that saw notable captures, the arrest of fugitives like Anthony Ojeda, also known as Erik Jonathan Donas-Ojeda, and Deshawn “Thorobread” Davis stood out. Ojeda, charged with second-degree murder of his 6-week-old son due to methamphetamine toxicity and physical trauma, was captured in Mexico City. Davis, wanted for a murder in Miami Beach and kidnapping in Canada, was apprehended in Redway, California. Additionally, the USMS aided in the recovery or location of 706 missing children in FY 2024, a contribution that has grown to more than 3,967 since the passage of the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act.
With the clearance of 88,765 warrants in FY 2024, USMS continues to play a crucial role in the nation's law enforcement landscape. The total warrants cleared includes 58,972 state and local warrants and 29,793 federal warrants, reflecting the comprehensive scope of the Service's efforts to track and apprehend fugitives across the country.
