A man on the run, wanted for charges related to the sexual assault of a child, was intercepted and arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Texas border. According to FOX San Antonio, the arrest took place on Thursday when 41-year-old Felipe Vasquez, a U.S. citizen, attempted to cross the Progreso International Bridge on foot.
Detailed checks during a secondary inspection allowed CBP officers to uncover Vasquez's identity through biometric verification, confirming he was the individual with an outstanding warrant. The warrant was for failing to appear on a charge of Sexual Assault of a Child in Hidalgo County. During that inspection process, using the National Crime Information Center—a database designed to share criminal information across law enforcement agencies—they were able to identify the suspect and confirm the existance of the outstanding warrant, as stated by News 4 San Antonio.
Acting Port Director Jorge Galvan from the Progreso/Donna Port of Entry highlighted the significance of the arrest, "This apprehension on an outstanding warrant for a sex-related offense involving a child underscores the vital importance of our border security mission," as he articulated in a statement obtained by FOX San Antonio. "Apprehensions like these ensure that justice is upheld and our border communities are safe and secure."
After his arrest, CBP officers transferred Vasquez into the custody of the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office to face the adjudication for his warrant.
