A violent incident shook a Warren 7-Eleven last week when a man, now identified as 46-year-old Brian Steele, crashed his car into the store and threatened those inside with knives. According to ClickOnDetroit, employees and customers were terrorized as Steele wielded the weapons and proclaimed threats to kill after his vehicle rammed into the building.
The situation escalated rapidly near midnight last Friday. Steele, covered in blood from what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds, confronted authorities while armed and refused to obey commands to disarm. CBS News Detroit reported that, despite multiple attempts from officers to de-escalate, they eventually were compelled to deploy a Taser, leading to Steele's disarmament and subsequent arrest. His girlfriend, who was present at the scene, managed to escape the ordeal unharmed despite the chaos.
In the aftermath, MLive notes that officers retrieved two serrated kitchen knives from Steele who was then treated for his wounds before being taken into custody. Following the event, Steele was charged with one count of assault with intent to rob while armed, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and one count of malicious destruction of a building $1,000 or more. Body camera footage documented the tense standoff and is likely to play a crucial role in the legal proceedings.
